Michael Carrick is still waiting on a new contract offer from Manchester United.

Last week Jose Mourinho said that he would like to put a new deal together but according to a report in The Sun the midfielder has still to hear from the club.

The 35-year-old is free to discuss a pre contract agreement from 1 January with Newcastle United tipped to make a move.

Carrick is from the north-east but speaking today indicated that he is prepared to wait for United to extend his deal into an 11th season.

I didn’t know he had said that to be honest,” Carrick replied when asked about Mourinho’s hint at a new deal.

I have said all along, I am relaxed about it. It depends if I am playing and if I am playing well enough and if I feel I can contribute.

If the manager feels I can contribute, there are a lot of things to be decided.”

Carrick has been used sparingly so far this season by Mourinho, playing in the recent cup ties against Feyenoord and West Ham but not in the league match against the Hammers at the weekend.

As well as Newcastle there is likely to be interest from a number of Premier League clubs who have looked at the impact Darren Fletcher has had on West Bromwich Albion.
