Spurs are stepping up their efforts to tie down Hugo Lloris but a new contract won’t all be about cash.

According to a report in The Mirror the keeper is concerned about the club’s lack of trophies and is holding back on committing himself to a new long term contract.

Lloris will be 30 at Christmas and needs reassured that Spurs are serious contenders for trophies following their failure to progress in to the knock out stages of the Champions League.

The former Lyon keeper is settled in London and under contract until 2019.

Securing Lloris onto a new long term deal with a significant pay hike would be a massive boost for Spurs with the Frenchman among the top ten European keepers.

Last week Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen signed improved new deals with Spurs keen to secure their star men from outside interest.

Lloris would have no shortage of offers if he was ever put up for sale but Spurs are determined to tick every box to ensure that their star keeper remains at the club.
