Why English clubs can forget about signing Moussa Dembele

|

Liverpool, Arsenal and any other admirers can forget about a January move for Moussa Dembele.

The Celtic striker hit the headlines in September when he scored twice against Manchester City following on from a hat-trick for the hoops in their 5-1 derby day win over Ranger.

The goals may have dried in a little recently but a double for the French u-21 side in their 3-2 win over England was another reminder of his ability.

Dembele joined Celtic from Fulham during the summer in exchange for a £500,000 development fee since he was out of contract.

The French u-21 internationalist could have gone to a number of Premier League clubs but chose Celtic for two specific reasons- Brendan Rodgers and the Champions League.

If money or a big name club had been the motivation Dembele could have remained in London.

Rodgers has eased last season’s 40 goal striker Leigh Griffiths aside for Dembele and provided Champions League football.

When Dembele leaves Celtic it’ll be to a club like Arsenal or Liverpool but with the next step upwards in his career- not as a bench filler or bit part player.

That day won’t be in January, it probably won’t be in 2017 but after two seasons working witrh Rodgers and further Champions League campaign his next club will be getting a 22-year-old that is ready to hit the ground running- and the back of the net.
