Marseilles want to take Mathieu Debuchy on loan from Arsenal.

According to a report in the Mirror the French side want the full-back on loan till the end of the season with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer.

Debuchy has started just one Premier League game this season and has been informed that he is unlikely to feature in Arsene Wenger’s plans.

Arsenal would like to recoup something of the £12m they paid Newcastle for the defender in July 2014 but there hasn’t been much interest in the 31 year old.

Sending Debuchy out on loan would put the defender in the shop window and hopefully generate some interest in a summer transfer.

Marseilles are now managed by Rudi Garcia who was in charge of Lille in the 2010/11 season with Debuchy a key part of that success.

The Frenchman made his only top team appearance of this season at home to Bournemouth last month.
