Ian Rush has given the Liverpool class of 2016 a glowing recommendation by admitting that he’d love to turn back the clock and be part of Jurgen Klopp’s title chasers.

Thousands of fans would love to see the dream team put together with the Welshman’s instinct for goal delivering countless trophies to Anfield.

Rush is a Club Ambassador these days, taking a keen interest in every aspect of the club and savouring the brand of football that Klopp has developed.

I’d love to play in this Liverpool team,” he told 888sport. They’re fantastic and so many chances are created but the main thing for me is how defending has changed.

The likes of Jamie Carragher and John Terry are dying out and there are a lot of footballers who like to play around the back. If you’re a clever striker that gives you half a chance and then you’re one-on-one with the keeper.”

As a celebrated goal scorer Rush takes an extra interest in who is putting the ball in the net and believes that Klopp has FIVE scoring options.

The Welshman added: “There are so many players who can score goals, at least five in Firmino, Coutinho, Mane, Sturridge or Lallana. Then you have defenders like Lovren chipping in too.

When you have players like that it’s very difficult for the opposition manager to know what to do. They can’t just say ‘stop him and stop him’. They don’t know what team is going to be playing and when they do, they don’t know who to man-mark.”

In two spells with Liverpool Rush scored an incredible 346 goals with his playing partnership with Kenny Dalglish the best in the club’s history.

Season 83/84 was probably Rish’s best with a total of 47 goals scored in 65 games covering all competitions as Liverpool won the Football League title, the Milk Cup and European Cup.
