England want to capture Ben Woodburn from Wales.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo the teenage Anfield star is being pursued by the FA despite having played for Wales at u-19 level.

Woodburn made his second top team appearance for Liverpool in their 2-0 EFL Cup win over Leeds United last night and is regarded as one of the best prospects in the game.

The 17-year-old attended Bishop Heber High School in Cheshire before moving to Rainhill High School, is from the village of Tattenhall in Cheshire and is eligible to play for England or Wales.

Until he plays in a competitive full international he will be entitled to play for either country before making his final decision.

The case of Ryan Giggs has haunted the FA for decades with the Welsh winger attending school and captaining Manchester Schools despite being born in Wales to Welsh parents.

New legislation allows players to qualify for a country provided they’ve attended school in that country for five years.
