Arsenal fans are delighted with the form of new boy Shkodran Mustafi but nevertheless, it’s been revealed the Gunners failed with a £35.7 million bid for Kostas Manolas in August, report The Express.

According to the publication, the Greek international was high on Arsene Wenger’s priority list in the summer but a deal never materialised due to Roma having to hand half of any transfer fee to Manolas’ former club Olympiakos.

Nevertheless, Manolas could find himself on the Gunners’ transfer radar yet again.

This is because according to Calcio Mercato, the centre back is currently in a contract stand off with Roma who aren’t budging on improving his current contract which is worth £2.2 million.

Also interesting Chelsea at the moment, the 25-year-old would be hard pressed to get into Arsenal’s regular starting eleven at the moment with both Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi striking up a positive partnership.

However, The Express claim Manolas could still be a target of Arsene Wenger next summer when the Frenchman may think about replacing the ageing Per Mertesacker who is yet to play for the Gunners this term through injury.
