He’s watched his career fade into obscurity and now, Manchester United will have to pay £13.8 million to release Bastian Schweinsteiger from his Red Devils contract, report Metro.

Outcast by Jose Mourinho at the start of the season, the former Germany international is on massive wages of £150,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

With 18 months left to run on his contract, the World Cup winner wants to be paid his wages in full before sealing his release from the club, according to Squawka.

Now 31-years-old, Schweinsteiger’s Manchester United career has been short and not so sweet having only appeared 18 times for the Red Devils in the Premier League while scoring a single top flight goal away at Watford last season.

The potential whereabouts of Schweinsteiger’s next club is particularly interesting with Metro’s report having confirmed via the player himself that the former Bayern Munich man won’t be joining another European team.

Naturally, you’d imagine links to clubs within Major League Soccer will start to materialise between now and his eventual Old Trafford release.
