Arsenal have made contact with Sporting Lisbon over a potential deal to bring striker Islam Slimani to England, according to HITC Sport

The Algerian marksman was in prolific form in the Portuguese capital last season, notching a whopping 27 goals (thanks to Transfermarkt) throughout the course of the domestic campaign.

With both Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott failing to wholly convince in central striking berths for the Gunners, their lack of a cutting edge has often been lamented.

Another relatively quiet summer of transfer activity has seen Arsene Wenger come under further criticism.

However, the report claims that the North London giants have made contact over a potential deal to bring the 28-year-old to England.

It is believed that they are willing to shell out around £25m in order to do so, though it is claimed within the report that Sporting value him more towards the £30m mark.

A central striker in the old fashioned sense, the Algerian international would represent a more natural centre-forward than the likes of Walcott or Alexis Sanchez.

Able to spearhead a fluid frontline that also includes Mesut Ozil, he also contributed 6 assists last time out.

It is reported that the forward has informed his current charges that he would like to move to the Premier League after three years in Lisbon.
