Ilkay Gundogan

According to The Sun, Manchester City believe they’ve won the transfer battle to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan; whilst The Daily Mail claim Arsenal are on the verge of sealing a deal for Gladbach skipper Granit Xhaka.

The German international will enter the final twelve months of his Dortmund contract during the summer transfer window and has resultantly been linked with a move away from Westfalenstadion for some time, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United in the mix to obtain his signature.

But City were always viewed as the front-runners in the race to sign the dynamic midfielder, with reports in February claiming he’d already informed other suitors of his intentions to work under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium next season.

And The Sun now claim City have all-but-officially confirmed a deal for Gundogan, likely to be worth somewhere between £28million and £34million – the Citizens’ and Dortmund’s valuations of the 25-year-old respectively. An announcement is now expected in the summer.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail report that Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, who has averaged 2.5 tackles and 2.8 interceptions per match this season whilst picking up three red cards in 24 Bundesliga outings.

Much like Gundogan, the Switzerland international has been mooted as a potential transfer target for the Gunners, Liverpool and Manchester United throughout the campaign. But The Daily Mail claim Arsenal are set to wrap up a transfer for the feisty 23-year-old, although there remains some dispute over his fee.

The north Londoners are ready to pay £20million, but Gladbach value him at £30million more. However, the Bundesliga outfit expect their captain to leave this summer and it’s now just a matter of reaching a compromise with Arsene Wenger’s side.
