Transfers: Liverpool make contact with Barca prodigy; Conte could keep Chelsea loan flop

Radamel Falcao

According to Marca, Liverpool are targeting Barcelona prodigy Sergio Gomez; whilst AS report that incoming manager Antonio Conte could look to extend Radamel Falcao’s stay at Chelsea.

The Barca prospect is just 15 years of age but has reportedly been attracting Premier League interest, particularly from Liverpool, for some time. He caught the eye as Barcelona beat the Reds in an Abu Dhabi-based youth tournament last month, which convinced the Merseysiders to step up their pursuit of the teenager.

According to Marca, Liverpool have already been in contact with the youngster and are prepared to pull out all the stops to prize him away from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy. But the La Liga giants are preparing a contract offer to keep Gomez at the Nou Camp, whilst Liverpool’s interest could be rivalled by a number of fellow Premier League sides.

Meanwhile, AS report that Antonio Conte, widely expected to take the Chelsea hot seat during the summer, could unexpectedly extend Radamel Falcao’s spell at Stamford Bridge. The Colombian international moved to west London on loan from Monaco at the start of the season but has managed just eleven appearances across all competitions, scoring once, and has been sidelined since October through injury.

However, AS claim the Italian gaffer is a big fan of the 30-year-old striker and tried to sign for Juventus back in summer 2013, after netting 34 times during his final campaign at Atletico Madrid. Conte and Falcao are now set for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the latter’s future with the Premier League champions.

Chelsea agreed a £38million future fee with Monaco upon signing Falcao last summer. But after two campaigns of poor form in the Premier League, also struggling on loan at Manchester United last term, the French side are probably willing to sell for less.
