According to reports from The Guardian, Manchester City are ‘closing in’ on a summer transfer for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan.
The German international looks set to enter the summer transfer window as one of the most sought-after midfielders in world football; a combination of his consistently expressive displays for Borussia Dortmund since signing from Nurnberg in 2011 and his Westfalenstadion contract encroaching upon its final twelve months.

Indeed, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been mooted as potential suitors ahead of the coming transfer window for various reasons. Arsenal are planning a major midfield investment for the summer, United also are expected to instigated changes as they allegedly welcome a new manager and Liverpool boast the Jurgen Klopp connection.
But the Citizens appear to be oceans ahead of their Premier League rivals – not to mention La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid – in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature. Some sources have claimed they’ve already agreed a summer transfer and The Guardian report that Gundogan’s agent and uncle, Ilhan, was spotted conversing with City sporting director Txiki Bergiristain for around 45 minutes at a hotel in Amsterdam earlier this week.
The energetic midfielder is expected to set his next club back around £23million in transfer fees.
