Ilkay Gundogan

According to reports from Mirror Football, Arsenal and Manchester City face competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan during the summer transfer window.

The Germany international is widely regarded as one of the top midfielders in world football, famed for his energy and creative instincts, and has recovered his best form this term following a series of lengthy back injuries.

Indeed, he’s averaged an impressive 1.6 tackles, 2.1 interceptions, 2.4 dribbles and 1 created chances per match this season whilst bagging one goal and three assists in 22 Bundesliga outings.

With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Dortmund will likely be forced to cash in during the coming transfer window and plenty of clubs have already been linked with the 25-year-old’s services.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been mooted as potential summer suitors but the Citizens are believed to be leading the race – with some sources claiming he’s already agreed an Etihad transfer.

But according to Mirror Football, City now face sizable competition for Gundogan’s signature from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. And even if Gundogan is already set on a move to Eastlands, interest from the El Clasico duo will inevitably have an effect on his price tag.
