Man United will have to pay £62m to sign teen target; Chelsea want Europe’s top scorer in £40m transfer

Gonzalo Higuain

According to The Sun, Benfica have upped the release clause of Manchester United target Renato Sanches to £62million; whilst Mirror Football report that striker Gonzalo Higuain is Chelsea’s top summer transfer target.

The 18-year-old has registered just 14 league outings for the Primeira Liga outfit, scoring twice, but is already being compared to Brazilian great Ronaldinho. Manchester United failed in a late €40million swoop for the midfielder during the January transfer window and have been widely tipped to revive their interest at the end of the season.

But according to The Sun, who cite reports from Spanish publication AS, Benfica have just extended the Portugal U19’s contract, raising his release clause to a mouthwatering £62million. The British tabloid also report that United aren’t the only club interested in signing Sanches, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid also keen.

Meanwhile, Mirror Football report that Gonzalo Higuain is one of Chelsea’s priority targets for the summer transfer window, following claims that they missed out on a £40million deal for the Napoli striker last month.

The Argentina international has scored the most times of any player involved in Europe’s five leading top flights this season with 24 goals in as many Serie A appearances and according to Mirror Football, the Blues are desperate to bolster their forward ranks with Diego Costa their only fully fit striker for much of the season.

Higuain snubbed a January move to Stamford Bridge due to a lack of assurances over whether he’d be first choice over the Spain international. But it seems that hasn’t deterred the Blues from chasing a player Napoli publicly valued at a whopping £67million last summer.
