According to reports from Calcio Mercato, Barcelona and Manchester City have joined Manchester United in the race to sign AC Milan’s prodigious goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italian prospect is just 16 years of age but has already established himself as Rossoneri’s No.1, muscling former Real Madrid star Diego Lopez out of the starting line-up to register 38 saves, six clean sheets and concede just twelve goals in 16 Serie A outings this season.

A number of major European clubs have taken note of the teenager’s miraculous rise and recent reports have claimed Manchester United are considering a €40million bid for the summer transfer window, viewing Donnarumma as a potential replacement for Real Madrid target David De Gea.

But according to Calcio Mercato, the Red Devils could face competition from La Liga giants Barcelona and Premier League rivals Manchester City, who have both sent scouts to run the rule over the Italy U17 in recent weeks.

However, all three clubs may be waiting a little while longer to sign the 6 foot 5 shot-stopper, with the Italian publication revealing that AC Milan hope to tie him down to a long-term contract within the month.

Another point of interest is Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola, whose other clients include Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He recently valued the San Siro starlet at an incredible €170million.
