According to reports from Footylatest, Liverpool could launch a shock swoop for Chelsea midfielder Marko Marin during the summer transfer window.

The German international moved to Stamford Bridge in summer 2012 but has only ever managed six Premier League appearances for his parent club, all of which came during his debut season, instead finding himself loaned out to Sevilla, Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Trabzonspor.

The attacking midfielder is currently on loan with the latter outfit, who have an option to buy at the end of the season, and recently admitted that a return to west London in the summer is incredibly unlikely. As quoted by The Daily Star, he told Kicker; “It’s difficult. You not only need a few good matches at Trabzon, but a very strong year. You never know, but right now it does not look like it.”

But according to Footylatest, Liverpool have emerged as shock contenders to sign the 26-year-old in the summer. Citing an unnamed German radio station, they claim the Reds are considering taking a punt on a midfielder who was once deemed one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga whilst dazzling at Werder Bremen.

Clearly out of favour at Stamford Bridge and now into the final 16 months of his contract, the Blues will likely part with Marin for a minuscule fee during the summer transfer window – although they may be unwilling to sell to a divisional rival.
