According to reports from The Daily Mail, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told close associates that his much-speculated move to Manchester United is a ‘done deal’.

The Special One has been linked with the Old Trafford hot seat since being sacked by the Blues in December, but the desire for him to replace Louis van Gaal has drastically escalated at Old Trafford since Manchester City officially confirmed Pep Guardiola as their next manager on transfer deadline day.

It was reported last week that negotiations to make him Red Devils boss had begun and that Mourinho remained ‘confident‘ of talks reaching a positive conclusion.

Despite Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino recently being mooted as a potential alternative to the controversial Portuguese following alleged talks with his representatives, The Daily Mail claim Mourinho has now informed his friends, family and associates that the United appointment is a ‘done deal’.

The 53-year-old is expected to take over in the summer, when Louis van Gaal will be relieved of his duties a year ahead of schedule. Despite spending around £250million on new signings during his two-year reign at Old Trafford, United currently find themselves six points off a Champions League spot.
