According to reports from The Independent, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is “confident” he’ll be appointed Manchester United manager.

The Special One is one of the few managers in world football who can claim to rival the Spaniard in terms of silverware and to have got the better of him in a title race – claiming the La Liga crown with Real Madrid in 2012 whilst Guardiola was in charge of Barcelona.

BBC Sport reported on Friday that negotiations between Mourinho and United’s chief executive Ed Woodward had begun, and the Independent now claim the former is “confident” that they will reach a successful conclusion with him eventually ascending to the Old Trafford throne.

Woodward wants the changeover to happen at the end of the season to avoid further disruptions to an already underwhelming campaign at United, but unnamed members of the board are reportedly pushing for Mourinho to be appointed sooner.
