According to reports from Mirror Football, Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer manager Mauricio Pochettino a new contract to fend off interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Argentine’s stock has rapidly soared since first arriving in the Premier League with Southampton three years ago. He transformed the Saints from relegation battlers into top six contenders and in 18 months at White Hart Lane has forged a young, industrious and prodigious side that are on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League tournament.

The 43-year-old’s impressive rise has not gone unnoticed by Chelsea and Manchester United, who have both been linked with his services in recent weeks. The Blues are shortlisting potential successors to interim manager Guus Hiddink, whilst the Red Devils have been tipped to replace under-fire gaffer Louis van Gaal.

Although Spurs are not ‘overly concerned’ with interest from their Premier League rivals, according to Mirror Football, they are ready to reward Pochettino’s recent successes and make a renewed statement of their faith in the South American by issuing him a new contract.

Pochettino currently takes home around £3.5million per year, but the new deal will ‘significantly increase’ that sum.

Fend off? Really? I doubt he’ll be interested in moving to clubs where money talks more than player development and I can’t see the likes of their big money players adapting to Poch’s methods.

he’s no fool and can see the success he’s having with a squad that can only get better – at the expense of the teams you’ve mentioned. he may be rewarded for his efforts but tha’s not the same is it??
