According to reports from The Sun, Arsenal have been issued a hands-off warning in their pursuit of former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexico international netted 59 goals in 157 appearances during his four full campaigns at Old Trafford – reaching double figures in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons – despite often having to endure the role of super-sub.

Bayer Leverkusen snapped up the 27-year-old for just £7.3million last summer and the guarantee of regular first-team football has seen him flourish, with eleven goals in the Bundesliga and five strikes in the Champions League’s Group Stages. He also claimed the German top flight’s Player of the Month award for November.

Arsenal are reportedly keen to bring Chicarito back to the Premier League after just six months at the BayArena, hoping his firepower will see them over the line in this season’s title race. Talismanic winger Alexis Sanchez has even told Arsene Wenger the South American would be the perfect January signing, according to some reports.

But it appears Bayer Leverkusen are ready to fight tooth and nail to hold onto Hernandez this month. As quoted by The Sun, sporting director Rudi Voller has recently insisted to reporters; “It’s easy to reject offers when you are in a position you don’t need to sell.We will keep all the players we want to help us achieve our goals.”
