Laurent Blanc

According to reports from Kicker, summarised in English by HITC, Liverpool are targeting Schalke winger Sidney Sam; whilst Mirror Football claim Manchester United have contacted PSG regarding the availability of manager Laurent Blanc.

German international Sam was one of the Bundesliga’s most potent wingers at former club Bayer Leverkusen, bagging 13 goals across all competitions during his final campaign at the Bay Arena, but has suffered an almighty fall from grace since joining the FC Schalke ranks in summer 2014.

He’s managed 16 appearances in 18 months with the Miners and was suspended indefinitely in May along with team-mate Kevin Prince-Boateng due to a ‘mutual lack of trust‘.

The 27-year-old has made just two appearances for the Schalke first team this season – both in the Europa League – and Kicker claim Liverpool are looking to take him off the club’s hands. Currently, however, there is no formal contact between the Reds and the Veltins Arena outfit.

Meanwhile, Mirror Football – who cite Le10Sport – report that Manchester United have made contact with PSG over the availability of manager Laurent Blanc – who they’re lining up as a potential replacement for Louis van Gaal.

Despite ending the Red Devils’ seven-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Swansea City last weekend, it appears the Dutchman’s status as Old Trafford gaffer is still under threat, with chief executive Ed Woodward looking to draft in a replacement either at the end of the season or earlier – should United’s results not improve.

Former World Cup winner Blanc, who won the Premier League title with the Red Devils in 2003, is on course to lead PSG to a third consecutive Ligue 1 title since taking the Paris hot-seat in summer 2013. The Parc de Princes outfit are currently 22 points clear at the top of the table.

Mirror Football claim the 50-year-old is now on United’s shortlist of successors to their under-fire gaffer, along with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
