Keisuke Honda

According to reports from Calcio Mercato, AC Milan manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has declared Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham target Keisuke Honda can “leave if he wants.”

The attacking midfielder is famed for his potent free kicks, the predominant source of his 76 goals in 353 appearances at club level and 32 strikes for Japan.

Having fallen out of favour at the San Siro since criticising the running of the club and calling for more investment earlier this season, receiving just four starts in Serie A, the 29 year-old was linked with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham last month.

Reports this morning suggested AC Milan would block any approaches for the the 29 year-old during the January transfer window. They’re already planning to offload fellow attacking midfielder Suso, formerly of Liverpool, whilst star forward Jeremy Menez is expected to be sidelined until February due to complications following his recent back surgery.

Recent comments from Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic, however, would suggest otherwise.

As quoted by Calcio Mercato, he said in today’s pre-match press conference ahead of a Serie A clash with Atalanta; “Every player is important to me, included the ones playing a bit less. If someone is not playing enough, he has to be angry with himself, not with me. Honda had his chances, and although everyone is important, no-one is indispensable. He can leave if he wants.”
