According to reports from Marca, Neymar’s next contract at Barcelona is set to include a €250million release clause.

Barcelona have been trying to tie the Brazil international, who boasts 68 goals in 108 appearances for the Nou Camp outfit, down to a new contract since the start of the season after he attracted interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils tabled a £139million bid according to Neymar’s father and agent, Neymar Santos Senior, which has only exacerbated concerns that the South American forward could leave the club in search of the coveted Ballon d’Or award – a seemingly impossible challenge for the 23-year-old whilst playing in the same team as four-time winner Lionel Messi.

That, in combination with recurring allegations of tax fraud, saw Neymar linked with Chelsea, Manchester City, PSG and Manchester United once again earlier this month, after his father told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser; “We’ve begun contract renewal talks, but there are outstanding issues that concern us, and which need to be resolved. Since we arrived to Spain we have been under attack and it has extended to Brazil.

“For the last two-and-a-half years, we have had to defend ourselves from accusations. We will respect Neymar‘s contract with Barca but regarding the contract extension, we need a deal that gives us peace of mind for Neymar, my companies, and my family.”

But that radio interview appears to have bucked Barcelona’s ideas up and Marca claim they’re on the verge of agreeing a contract so lucrative that the 69-cap international simply can’t refuse it.

It will not only extend his current terms from 2018 to 2021 and increase his salary to €15million per year, but also include a €250million release clause in the hope of significantly reducing the chances of a Premier League move in the future.
