According to reports from Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has backed Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League title credentials following their strong start to the season.
The Lilywhites were fifth in the Premier League table and fourth in the division’s form guide before this weekend’s round of fixtures, and haven’t actually lost a league game since the opening day of the season – a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. In the process, they’ve claimed a 4-1 win over title favourites Manchester City and a vital away point against local rivals Arsenal.
Their impressive results have seen home-grown trio Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Kane emerge as increasingly important figures in Roy Hodgson’s plans for the England national team, whilst attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has also impressed – ranking third throughout the Premier League in terms of created chances per match with an average of 3.2.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s visit to White Hart Lane at noon on Sunday, Blues boss Jose Mourinho suggested Spurs could claim their first league title since 1961.
As quoted by Sky Sports, he said; “When I watch them play it’s no surprise. If they tell players or managers that they are fighting for the title I will not laugh. The team is very good. Manager is good, players are good. Good stability, playing well. I think a really, really, really good team. They have this season an even better team than last season.
“I can imagine, with the stability they are showing, that sooner or later – I think sooner – they will be there, or win trophies or in a Champions League position.”
