Breel Embolo

According to reports from The Metro, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both targeting FC Basel prodigy Breel Embolo.

The 6 foot 1 striker is just 18 years of age but has already notched up 24 goals in 67 appearances for Urs Fischer’s side and helped fire them to last season’s domestic title with ten strikes in 26 Super League outings.

The Cameroon-born teenager has also represented Switzerland at senior level on seven occasions since his debut in March and that emphatic rise hasn’t gone unnoticed by some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking the powerful frontman’s progress for some time, but The Metro – who cite Italian publication Calcio Mercato – claim they’re now rivalled for his signature by north London neighbours Arsenal.

Both clubs are expected to be on the lookout for added firepower in the January transfer window. Spurs’ goalscoring hopes for the season rest almost exclusively on Harry Kane in the absence of a dependable understudy, whilst a recent injury to Theo Walcott has once again highlighted the Gunners’ lack of depth up top.

Embolo certainly seems to be in Arsenal and Tottenham’s consideration ahead of the midseason window, but Basel reportedly value their prodigious striker at a pricey £21million.
