According to the The Daily Star, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports suggesting he’ll try to re-sign club legend Didier Drogba in January.
The iconic front-man arrived at Stamford Bridge with Mourinho in summer 2004 and went on to win three Premier League titles under the Portuguese, including last season’s.
Also winning a Champions League title, four FA Cups and three League Cups during his two stints in west London, separated by short spells with Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray, the former Ivory Coast international was voted as the club’s greatest ever player in 2012.
He left Chelsea for a second time during the summer and has since found strong form for Montreal Impact, netting eleven times in his first eleven MLS appearances.
It had been suggested the Blues could look to re-sign the 6 foot 2 front-man in the January transfer window – when the MLS season will have concluded – following an underwhelming start to the season from their strike-force. Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao have found just four goals between them so far this term.
During his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, however, Mourinho has ruled out a third return for Didier Drogba in January.
As quoted by The Star, he said; “Do you want me to compare the Premier League with the MLS? Didier will always offer something to a club and the group that loves him and that he loves – no doubt about it. But will I bring him back? No.”
