According to reports from The Express this morning, who cite Italian publication TuttoSport, 15 of world football’s biggest agency firms raked in a whopping £351million this summer – including the representatives of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester United signing Anthony Martial.
To put that into perspective, that equates to over 40% of the Premier League’s combined £870million spend from the summer transfer window, almost as much as La Liga and Serie A’s, £400million and £405million respectively,£60million more than the Bundesliga’s and £130million more than Ligue 1’s.
The most successful firm was Mondial Sport Management, who earned £67million from the £669million’s worth of dealings they were involved with during the summer. That includes Manchester United’s £36million swoop for teenage sensation Anthony Martial, whilst Mateo Kovacic, who moved to Real Madrid for €32million in August, is another notable client of theirs.
Following closely behind are Gestifute international – the company ran by renowned ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes – whose biggest clients include Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Costa, Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez, Thiago Silva and Jose Mourinho. They pocketed £62.6million this summer – their biggest deal coming in the form of Angel Di Maria’s £44million move to PSG.
Of the 15 firms in question, nine took £15million or more out of the game and all raked in at least £9million. Gestifute International and Mondial Sport Management, meanwhile, made a combined £129.6million.
