Liverpool boost: Barca put off by Anfield star’s price-tag

No.10 - Philippe Coutinho

According to reports from the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (see 16:11), Barcelona remain interested in signing Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho but are put off by his potential price-tag.

The Brazil international has emerged as one of the key members of Liverpool’s starting Xi since first arriving at Anfield in January 2013 – courtesy of the now unemployed Brendan Rodgers.

He boasts 14 goals and 19 assists in 87 Premier League appearances for the Reds and was included in the division’s Team of the Year at the end of last season. He also picked up the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards at Anfield.

Rumours of Barcelona’s interest in the 23 year-old first surfaced after the close of the summer transfer window, coinciding with Steven Gerrard’s claims that it would only be a matter of time until the attacking midfielder is featuring regularly in the El Clasico derby.

According to Sky Sports’ La Liga correspondent Guillem Balague, however, the La Liga giants are being put off by Coutinho’s potential price-tag – expected to be a significant one considering he signed a contract until 2020 in February and is now Liverpool’s flagship talent.

He told Sky Sports News today; “They [Barcelona] have made a list of players that they are interested in, or that they will research on. [Sofiane] Feghouli at Valencia is one and Coutinho is another one. Parallel to that, Coutinho has received the backing of David Luiz of PSG and Neymar as well. Both of them have said recently that he would be a great addition to Barcelona.

“Barcelona don’t seem to be fully interested for different reasons but mostly because of the cost, the fee, to get him to Barcelona. They’ve got Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan joining the squad, they’re looking for one or two additions but they don’t want to spend a lot of money and Coutinho would cost much more than they want to spend.”

If Barcelona doesn’t sign coutinho in January.. like I’ll be so so sad.. he’s got wat it takes to survive at Barcelona double double… he plays great football and he’s young and talented., not to mention he’s fast like Williams… so I think he’s gonna be a great impact to the team… Go get him Barcelona Forget about the price tag… we need such… Tonyoffical

To me coutinho is not a kind of player barcelona need right now becuase we have the like of adan turan and alexi vida.for adan he can play as an attacking middfilder and alexi on right wing fowr.so we need a holding middfile like gordogan, varratie, pogba, alves of porto, orzil, koke, ever barnega or erisksen.and one thing which barca should address on is suarez,he doesn’t struggle for ball like the way benzema, lewandoski and other strikers did,he only want easy football.even our lose againt celtal and sevilla his working rate for team is very low,he loosed alot of possessoin up front more than any other barca player on the filed.he should learn how to keep ball like messi, neymar, inestar, and other strikers and he should be subtitued at time when his not helping the the team, this thing happend last season against sevillar, which should had been subtitued not neymar and eventually we draw the game from two goals lead.
