According to reports from ESPN this morning, Manchester United have received a significant blow in their efforts to sign Barcelona star Neymar.

The 23 year-old forward, who bagged 39 goals in 51 appearances last season to help fire the Nou Camp outfit to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer.

He’s still believed to be a long-term target of the Red Devils, who were allegedly prepared to activate his £130million release clause in the final week of the transfer window. Consequentially, Barcelona have been attempting to tie the Brazil international down to a new contract since the start of the season.

Barca sporting director Roberto Fernandez attempted to pour cold water on a potential deal last week, claiming “Neymar will spend the rest of his life at Barcelona,” and the Premier League giants have now received another devastating blow – with the 5 foot 9 attacker insisting he’s happy at the Nou Camp and keen to sign a new contract.

As reported by ESPN, he said; “I am very happy at Barca, and in Barcelona, where I have settled very well. I have three more years left on my contract and my father looks after these things. My only concern at the moment is to be focused on helping the team and to keep winning trophies at Barca.”

Then asked if he wanted to sign a new deal, Neymar replied; “Of course, but that is something we will talk about further down the line.”
