Aleksandr Kokorin

According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Dynamo Moscow manager Andrey Kobelov has confirmed Arsenal made a bid for Aleksandar Kokorin this summer.

The Russian international netted against Algeria at last summer’s World Cup and comes highly-rated, boasting a return of 30 goals in his last 77 league outings for the Moscow outfit.

The 24 year-old was linked with the Gunners, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during the final days of the summer transfer window but a Premier League move failed to materialise and now we’ve been given some insight as to why.

According to Andrey Kobelov, Arsene Wenger wanted to sign Kokorin on a season-long loan rather than a permanent deal, much to the Dynamo gaffer’s disappointment. He said; “There were substantial discussions on Kokorin, but it did not happen. We vetoed a loan. I believe that Alexander deserves more than a loan.”

According to reports from earlier this week, however, the Gunners are still keen on the 6 foot forward. He’s apparently at the top of Arsene Wenger’s wishlist for the January transfer window – and any move to the Emirates could come at the expense of Galatasaray target Joel Campbell.
