Jamie Carragher

Earlier this week, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher revealed his biggest criticism of the Anfield squad – the absence of an established wide player.

He said on Sky Sports; “There are no wide players in the squad, there is an abundance of No 10s. I don’t know how the transfer committee thought they would fit them in. That is Jurgen Klopp’s problem now. Maybe he will address that in January but there are four centre forwards and three or four No 10s and no wide players. There are some problems with that squad in terms of the quality and the balance.”

We at This Is Futbol feel inclined to agree with him. After all, with the exception of inexperienced youngster Jordon Ibe, all of Liverpool’s creative threats prefer more central roles – the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings, for example.

Likewise, wide players were a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy at Borussia Dortmund, with the speed and attacking prowess of Marco Reus, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Ivan Perisic and Kevin Grosskreutz becoming a defining feature of the Black-Yellows’ play amid their surprise march to the 2013 Champions League final.

So with that in mind, TIF have used our god-given powers of transfer know-how to shortlist five formidable wingers the Merseysiders could realistically sign during the January transfer window.

Which of these would you like to see turn up at Anfield in the new year, Liverpool fans? Let us know by commenting below!
