Chelsea ready to back Mourinho with January bid for Everton star

John Stones (2)

According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Chelsea are ready to revive their interest in John Stones with a January bid for the Everton defender.

The Premier League champions saw three bids rejected for the England international during the summer, despite him handing in a transfer request at Goodison Park in late August. Mirror Football claim their final offer was worth £38million.

But the 21 year-old is still very much in Jose Mourinho’s thoughts, especially after the dismal start to the Blues’ title defence. They’re currently 16th in the Premier League table with the second worst defensive record in the division, conceding 17 goals – more than half of their total from last season – in just eight games.

According to Mirror Football, the club’s hierarchy are ready to back Mourinho with another offer in the January transfer window – providing he can get Chelsea back into top four contention by then.

The west London outfit are also eyeing a deal for PSG’s Marquinhos claim the British newspaper – something ThisIsFutbol reported on earlier this week.

Chelsea also saw a bid for the Brazil international rejected during the summer, believed to be around the £33million mark, and will look to capitalise on his failure to usurp countrymen David Luis and Thiago Silva from Laurent Blanc’s starting Xi with an improved offer in January.
