Ramires (2)

According to reports from BBC Sport, Ramires has signed a new contract at Chelsea; whilst Sky Sports reveal that Andre Villas-Boas has ruled out a move for Radamel Falcao in January.

28 year-old Ramires moved to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in summer 2010 in a €22million deal and has gone on to make 241 appearances for the Blues – including six outings in the Premier League this season.

He’s won the Premier League, the Champions League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup during his spell in west London and has now committed himself to another four years, with the Brazil international’s new contract set to expire in 2019.

Upon signing his new deal, the energetic midfielder told Chelsea’s official website; “My family and I are very happy here in London and in the past five years the club has lifted every major trophy. I hope to be an important part of many more successes in the next four years.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, now in charge at Zenit St. Petersburg, has dismissed reports claiming he’ll look to sign struggling striker Radamel Falcao in January.

The Colombian international has managed just one start and one goal in the Premier League since arriving on loan at Stamford Bridge in the summer and is reportedly considering a request to return to parent club Monaco in the coming transfer window.

AVB told Zenit’s website; “No, I haven’t had a conversation with Jose [Mourinho], the player belongs to Chelsea, on loan from Monaco. It’s difficult to bring such a player to Russia with the rules and regulations we have.”

The Portuguese did, however, confirm he tried to sign the 29 year-old during the summer, adding; “We tried to bring him here in the summer at the start of the season, but then the rules changed a week before the season started. We can’t bring him here because of the rules and we don’t have space.”

A new rule implemented in July now restricts Russian teams to playing only six foreign players at any one time. Zenit currently have eight in their first team squad.
