Sergi Samper

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Barcelona’s playmaking prodigy Sergi Samper is keen on joining Premier League title contenders Arsenal.

The 20 year-old is highly rated at the Nou Camp and made his senior debut for the Catalans at the start of last season, during a 1-0 win over Cypriot outfit APOEL FC in the group stages of the Champions League, but has failed to become a recurring fixture in Luis Enrique’s first team plans.

Even amid injuries to Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and fellow prospect Rafinha this season, the 5 foot 11 defensive midfielder is still waiting upon his first outing in La Liga.

Likewise, Barcelona B were relegated to the Spanish third tier at the end of last term, meaning Samper would have to play at a much lower level to receive regular football this year.

Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with the Spain U21 during the summer but according to Mirror Football, it’s exclusively an Emirates switch which is currently tempting him.

Citing reports from Fichajes, they claim Samper is very interested in joining the north London club, who are considering activating his £8.5million release clause.

Speculating on the same report, The Metro claim the move could happen as early as January.
