A Herrera

According to reports from The Metro this afternoon, Barcelona are considering a January bid for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Spaniard moved to Old Trafford from Athletic Bilbao in a £29million bid last summer and impressed during his debut Premier League campaign, bagging six goals in 26 appearances.

But the 26 year-old has found first team opportunities limited this term following the summer arrivals of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, receiving just two starts in the Premier League.

According to The Metro, who cite Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb, Barcelona are now keen to take the playmaking midfielder off United’s hands. The Catalans are looking to source new recruits once their transfer embargo is lifted in January following injuries to Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Rafinha.

Herrera’s not the only Premier League midfielder on their radar, however. The European champions have been linked with Liverpool talisman Philippe Coutinho, who boasts 14 goals and 19 assists in 87 Premier League appearances for the Reds, since the close of the summer window.

The Brazil international claimed a place in last terms’s Premier League Team of the Season, whilst picking up the Players’ Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year awards at Anfield.

Earlier this week, Barca sporting director Roberto Fernandez admitted Coutinho is on the club’s radar, telling Catalan radio station Cadena SER; “He’s a great player with fantastic attributes, but we’re also keeping an eye on other players.”
