According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal and Liverpool target Dani Ceballos has signed a new contract with Real Betis.

The 19 year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in Betis’ escape from the Spanish second division last term, bagging five goals in 33 appearances. He’s yet to have the same sort of impact during the 2015/16 campaign, however, finding just the one assist in six La Liga outings – three of which have come from the bench.

Regardless, Ceballos remains highly rated throughout Spanish football, having already registered 17 youth caps for La Roja, with some dubbing him ‘the next Cesc Fabregas’.

Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with the Spain U21 earlier this month, in no small part due to his contract expiring at the end of the season and the resulting potential to snap him up for a nominal fee.

According to The Express, Ceballos has now signed a five-year contract at Benito Villamarin – but the Premier League duo still have a good chance of signing him. The new deal includes a release clause, believed to be between £8.8million and £11million, that is well within both clubs’ financial reach.

Upon signing his new deal, the prodigious midfielder told Betis’ official wesbite; “The renewal with Betis is what I wanted long ago. This is what I had been waiting for since the doors opened for the first time at Betis and I am very happy to sign here.”
