Nolito

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Barcelona have dropped out of the race to sign Arsenal strike target Nolito.

The Spaniard has always been highly-rated throughout his spells with Barcelona B, Benfica and Granada and during the summer was linked with a move to Everton – as well as a shock return to the Nou Camp.

But the 28 year-old has really upped his game this season, bagging five strikes and three set-ups in six La Liga appearances to top the division’s goals and assists charts before this weekend’s rounds of fixtures. That impressive form saw him called up to the Spain squad yesterday ahead of Chelsea star Diego Costa.

It was revealed earlier this week that Arsenal are considering activating Nolito’s release clause in January, believed to be £13.3million, but would likely face competition from former employers Barcelona.

But according to Mirror Football, who cite Spanish publication Sport, the European Champions have now dropped out of the race to sign Nolito – leaving Arsenal a free run at the 5 foot 9 winger-forward.

Strikers Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have netted five Premier League goals between them this season. But with Arsenal at the top of the division’s creativity charts before this weekend, conjuring up 115 chances at goal, many feel another centre-forward could take better advantage of their potent supply from midfield.
