Marquinhos

According to reports from Sky Sports News yesterday evening, Chelsea saw two deadline day bids for centre-back Marquinhos rejected by PSG.

The Brazil international is widely regarded as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in world football, having been signed by the Parisians for a whopping €31.4million as a teenager.

Now 21 years of age, Marquinhos has enjoyed back-to-back campaigns in the PSG first team but often found himself selected in his secondary role of right-back, especially following the £50million arrival of former Chelsea star David Luiz last summer.

It’s a situation Manchester United attempted to exploit in January amid their arduous search for a star-studded centre-back, with The Express reporting talks over a potential £30million deal.

But after missing out on Everton’s John Stones, Premier League champions Chelsea attempted to prize the former Roma star away from Parc de Princes yesterday.

According to Sky Sports, the west Londoners launched two separate bids between the £24.7million and £40.4million mark – only to see both rejected by the French champions.

The Blues, however, did complete deals for young centre-backs Michael Hector and Papy Djilobodji before deadline day’s 6pm cut-off.
