Marquinhos

According to reports from The Express this morning, Chelsea and Manchester United have been alerted by news that prodigious centre-back Marquinhos is unhappy at current club PSG.

The Brazil international is widely regarded as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in European football, having been purchased by the Ligue 1 champions for a whopping €31.4million in summer 2013 – then a club-record fee for a teenager.

But the 21 year-old has struggled to claim a consistent role in the starting Xi at Parc de Princes, managing just 44 appearances out of a possible 80 since his lucrative arrival, and now faces rather formidable competition for a centre-back berth from countrymen Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

Marquinhos has had plenty of opportunities to leave the French capital over the last nine months; Manchester United were in talks over a £30million move in January whilst Chelsea allegedly saw a £40.4million bid rejected on summer deadline day; but turned them all down.

But according to The Express, who cite reports from French publication L’Equipe, the 6 foot defender may have undergone a change of heart. They claim he is now ‘unhappy’ at PSG – ‘adding fuel to rumours that he could leave in January’.

It echoes comments from former PSG star and Brazil international Alex, who said last week; “If I was in his place I would leave PSG – especially when all the big clubs want him. During every transfer window, he gets magnificent offers. He’s young and should be playing to show his worth.”
