Ashley Young

According to reports from The Express this morning, in-demand winger Ashley Young is on the verge of signing a contract extension at Manchester United.

The veteran winger joined the Red Devils from Aston Villa in summer 2011 but has spent much of his Old Trafford career battling injuries, poor form and accusations of diving.

However, the England international found a new lease of life under Louis van Gaal last season, recording two goals and five assists in 26 Premier League appearances and even filling in as the Red Devils’ emergency left-back on occasion.

Tottenham Hotspur have been recurringly linked with the former Watford man this summer, whose contract is set to expire at the end of next season, whilst The Daily Star believe Liverpool are preparing an £8million bid – which would make Young the first player to directly cross the northwest rivalry since Phil Chisnall all the way back in 1964.

But according to The Express, who cite a Daily Star exclusive, the 30 year-old has been offered a three-year contract extension at Carrington, which will maintain his current wage package of £120k per-week.

Should Young sign as expected, it’s likely he’ll go on to retire as a Manchester United player.
