According to reports from The Daily Mail this morning, Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a last-minute bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The 27 year-old boasts 133 goals in 281 appearances for Los Blancos, helping fire them to a La Liga title, the 2014 Champions League title and two Copa del Reys since signing from Lyon in 2009.

But fresh managerial appointment Rafa Benitez plans to utilise Cristiano Ronaldo as a lone centre-forward next term, which has put Benzema’s future in doubt.

That’s lead to rumoured interest from Manchester United, who are still yet to source a replacement for now-Fenerbahce front-man Robin van Persie, whilst Arsenal have allegedly already seen a £32million bid rejected this summer.

Despite the Bernabeu boss recently insisting otherwise, reports yesterday claimed Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would be willing to part with the France international for around £45million.

And according to The Daily Mail, Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a bid for Benzema – with the British newspaper believing a deal could take place in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

When discussing his striking options for the coming campaign, Le Professeur told reporters; “At the moment we do not have Sanchez, not Welbeck, and when these players come back we feel that we have the needed striking force. But we don’t rule out as well if something exceptional turns up to do it.”

It follows claims from Arsenal director Lord Harris, who alleged last month that Wenger has a centre-forward at the top of his targets list.

However, Sky Sports’ La Liga expert Graham Hunter believes the potential move will likely require the France international making a formal transfer request to leave the Spanish capital.
