Nabil Bentaleb

According to reports from The Express this morning, Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has signed a five-year contract extension at White Hart Lane.

The Algeria international broke into Spurs’ starting Xi under Tim Sherwood during the 2013/14 campaign and has since gone on to make 55 appearances in all competitions for the north Londoners, including 41 outings in the Premier League.

The 20 year-old has impressed in midfield alongside Ryan Mason last season, averaging 2.3 tackles and 2.5 interceptions per match whilst recording a pass completion rate of 87%.

Last month, Bentaleb publicly expressed disappointment in his fine form not being rewarded with an improved contract at White Hart Lane; “I’ve been working really hard and it’s normal for me to want to get rewarded,” he said.

“We’ve been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it’s getting really long and, of course, I’m getting a little bit tired of it.”

That lead to reports of Arsenal, Juventus, Liverpool and PSG all considering summer bids for the 6 foot 2 midfielder, with the Reds particularly keen on a £10million deal.

But Bentaleb has now ended speculation over his future by signing a contract extension until 2020 with the Lilywhites – suggesting he’s a long-term fixture in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the first team.

Upon news of his five-year deal, a club statement read; “The club is delighted to announce that Nabil Bentaleb has signed a new five-year contract, which runs until 2020,” whilst Bentaleb tweeted; “I’d like to say thanks to the club, thanks to my family and thanks to the fans for the support.”

Lucky for all those clubs he has stayed at Tottenham. The guy is being hyped up. He really is ordinary. Not good enough for Arsenal, that is for sure.
