According to reports from The Express this morning, Liverpool will launch a £32.5million bid for Christian Benteke this week, activating the Aston Villa striker’s release clause.
The Belgium international ended the 2014/15 campaign in a blaze of incredible form, netting twelve times in his final 13 outings – including a Premier League hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers – to bring his Villains total to 49 goals in 99 appearances.
That, in combination with the revelation that his Villa Park contract includes a £32.5million release clause, has generated plenty of interest in the 24 year-old.
The Express moot Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs as potential suitors, whilst Manchester United are believed to have launched an enquiry into the Villians’ valuation of the 6 foot 3 front-man last month.
The Birmingham remain adamant any buyer must activate Benteke’s buy-out fee, however, despite him recently turning down the opportunity of a contract extension, and it appears the Anfield outfit are now ready to accept their demands.
That’s according to The Express, who claim manager Brendan Rodgers is determined to make the former Genk prodigy his seventh signing of the summer and will launch a £32.5million bid by the end of the week.
Whether the news will convince some of Benteke’s other suitors to follow suit remains to be seen. But last week it was claimed the striker is only interested in a move to Merseyside.
