Asmir Begovic

According to reports from The Telegraph yesterday evening, Chelsea will increase their bid for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic by the end of the day.

The Potters No.1 is widely expected to leave the Britannia this summer as his contract enters its final 12 months, with Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes recently admitting the 6 foot 6 shot stopper has probably held talks with interested parties already.

One of those interested parties is rumoured to be Manchester United, who view the Bosnian international as a potential replacement for Real Madrid-bound No.1 David De Gea.

But Chelsea have proved to be Begovic’s most proactive suitors thus far. They’ve wasted no time in attempting to sign the 27 year-old, launching a £6million bid on the same afternoon Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal became official.

Stoke turned down a similar offer from Aston Villa just days before, branding it ‘derisory‘. But Begovic’s Blues move is still widely expected to eventually go ahead, with reports claiming the former Portsmouth youngster is happy to serve as Thibaut Courtois’ understudy at Stamford Bridge.

And according to The Telegraph, Chelsea intend to table an £8million offer by the end of the day. It meets Stoke’s much-rumoured valuation, but the British news outlet claim manager Mark Hughes also wants a loan signing in exchange, following Victor Moses’ impressive form last season.

He’d happily take the Nigerian international for another year, whilst Patrick Bamford, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathan Ake are also on the Welsh gaffer’s radar.
