According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Arsenal and Liverpool target Gonzalo Higuain has told Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis he wants to leave the Italian top flight this summer.

The 27 year-old boasts a prolific return of 217 goals in 459 appearances throughout his spells with River Plate, Real Madrid, Napoli and the Argentine national team – including 29 goals for Partenopei across all competitions last season – and famously came close to joining the Gunners in summer 2013.

He’s back on the Emirates radar as well as Liverpool’s following the Naples outfit’s failure to qualify for the Champions League at the end of last season, which has reportedly convinced the 6 foot 1 striker his immediate future lays elsewhere.

And according to The Express, who cite Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com, Higuain has now informed the club’s hierarchy he wants to leave Serie A this summer, despite three years remaining on his current contract.

The British tabloid also claim Arsenal are preparing a £43million bid – but Napoli have insisted any potential suitor must meet the striker’s £66million release clause.
