According to reports from The Guardian yesterday afternoon, Arsenal and Chelsea face competition from four top clubs – including three in the Champions League – in the race to sign Augsburg full-back Abdul Rahman Baba.

The 20 year-old has just come to the end of a sensational campaign with the SGL arena outfit, bagging four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the division, which has lead The Evening Standard to describe him as ‘the best left-back in the Bundesliga last season’.

It’s also generated plenty of rumours regarding Abdul Rahman Baba’s future with the German outfit. He was linked to Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May, whilst last month came reports of a bidding war between Arsenal and Chelsea.

Augsburg boss Stefan Reuter has since dubbed the reports as ‘pure speculation‘ – recently telling German publication Kicker; “There is nothing concrete on our desk regarding Rahman Baba. We are excited by his performances for our club and we can say that he has said he is happy to be here. The rumours are pure speculation at the moment.”

But according to The Guardian, at least six clubs are definitely targeting the Ghana international, who reached the final of the African Cup of Nations with his country earlier this year.

Alongside Arsenal and Chelsea, Champions League trio Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Roma are all considering bids, whilst Inter Milan are also in the mix.

With so many clubs believed to be interested, Abdul Rahman Baba’s £14million valuation could skyrocket by the end of the transfer window.
