According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Southampton are considering a summer bid for Espanyol centre-back Hector Moreno.
The 27 year-old first drew the attention of Europe’s top clubs during the 2010 World Cup, where he helped Mexico escape Group A to face Argentina in the first knock-out round.
He signed for Espanyol a year later and has since emerged as one of the most consistent centre-backs in La Liga, last term averaging an impressive 1.1 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 2.1 successful aerial duels and 5.2 clearances per match.

As This Is Futbol revealed in May, the 6 foot defender is already on the radars of Arsenal, Juventus and Tottenham. In fact, he almost signed for the latter club last summer, until fracturing his tibia at the 2014 World Cup – as This Is Futbol reported in April.
But according to Mirror Football, Southampton are now lining up the £8million-rated Mexico international as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
As This Is Futbol revealed last week, parent club Atletico Madrid have offered the Belgium centre-back to Chelsea after his impressive season on loan at St.Mary’s.
