Robert Green

With Petr Cech now officially an Arsenal player, The Independent claim Chelsea are targeting QPR’s Rob Green as the 33 year-old’s replacement.

I have nothing against the occasional England international – although its hard to look past his absolute howler at the 2010 World Cup – and indeed, he finished the 2014/15 with the second-most saves of any Premier League goalkeeper, a rather incredible 115.

But in my opinion, the English champions could be doing a little better and Jose Mourinho seems to agree, recently claiming the club needs two top class goalkeepers.

After all, if Barcelona have Marc Andre ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo, Real Madrid have Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas, Manchester City have Joe Hart and Willy Cabellero and Bayern Munich have Manuel Neuer and Pepe Reina, why can’t the Blues land a Champions League-standard understudy, instead of a 35 year-old who has only twice finished in the top half of the Premier League table?

So with that in mind, This Is Futbol have compiled a list of seven superior alternatives to the apparent Chelsea target, considerably more capable of stepping into Petr Cech’s almighty shoes AND most importantly, realistically available this summer.
