Thuggish defender Martin Skrtel has served eight seasons at Liverpool, in that time lifting a Capital One Cup and recording a runner-up finish in the Premier League.
But the Slovakian international’s Anfield tenure could well come to an abrupt end this summer, with his on-going contract dispute still awaiting resolution.
The Liverpool hierarchy have already put an offer on the table, but it was deemed ‘unacceptable‘ by the 30 year-old, due to it’s numerous clauses based around appearances and performance targets – which he claims should be reserved for ageing players or those with fitness problems.
Of course, there’s still a season remaining on Skrtel’s current deal. But running the risk of losing him on a free transfer in a year’s time, Brendan Rodgers might find himself obliged to cash in on the 6 foot 3 centre-back before the close of the January window.
And with that in mind, This Is Futbol have created a list of ten potential replacements for Liverpool’s contractually rebellious defender. Would the Reds be better off with one of these TEN lads at the heart of their defence next season?
What? Skrtel has signed a new contract last week what utter rubbish. Very slack, schoolboy error.
