Manchester United are expected to keep themselves very, very busy in the coming transfer window – at least by the reckoning of the tabloids.

Indeed, Louis van Gaal will reportedly be given a transfer war chest somewhere in the region of £150million and £200million to transform the Red Devils back into genuine Premier League title contenders.

But in order to make room for his new signings, the Dutchman is expected to instigate a bit of a cull, having now received a full campaign’s worth of football to run the rule over a squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.

So with plenty of movement anticipated on both the outward and inward fronts, This Is Futbol have compiled the Ten likeliest Manchester United transfers into this easily digestible list – featuring five potential departees and their five rumoured replacements.

Would you like to see the Old Trafford outfit make some of these trade-offs in the coming window?

I like your assessment of Benzema, I think he would do well in the Premier League, and I think a slow start to his career has cast a shadow over his reputation; over the past few seasons he has been genuinely excellent, and I think he will provide a good, experienced head to lead the line for the magnificent new generation of French players who are coming through and the national team’s inevitable 4-3-3.

1 in 2 isn’t a bad record though, I think it just looks bad in comparison to Ronaldo.

I reckon Clyne is more likely to go to Man Utd than to Chelsea though, he’ll have far less competition. Chelsea already have two right backs who are arguably better than Clyne.

  • Misery Joe says:

Tell you what though, this would be one sexy lineup:

    —————-Lloris
    Clyne—Jones—Hummels—Shaw
    ——–Carrick—-Strootman
    —-Di Maria—Mata——-Bale
    —————Rooney

    Subs:
Lindegaard, Rojo, Valencia, Blind, Herrera, Depay, van Persie

    Others:
Smalling, Blackett, McNair, Young, Januzaj, Fellaini, Wilson

    • Christy Malyan says:

      Or Even:
      ————Lloris
      ——–Jones Hummels Rojo
      Bale Carrick Gundogan Shaw
      ——Rooney Di Maria
      ————Benzema

      • Misery Joe says:

That is a quality line-up, dunno about the wing-backs though, I reckon Bale is wasted there and I don’t think Shaw’s really got the stamina to marshal an entire flank by himself. Still, they have plenty of options: Clyne could probably do it, Blind too, and obviously they still have Valencia, Young, etc.

I am curious as to whether there will be a massive clearout at Dortmund following Klopp’s departure. Hummels, Gundogan, Mkhitaryan, Reus (etc.) have been linked with moves away for years but they never materialised; maybe Klopp leaving will be the final straw.

        • Christy Malyan says:

Yeah in practice it’d be more of a 4-3-3 with Shaw tucking in, Jones coming across and Bale doing whatever he wants.

Well, Gundogan is definitely leaving because there’s only a year left on his contract. I’m pretty sure Hummels will leave too. Reus just signed a new deal but that was just to get rid of his £25m release clause (ridiculously cheap), so he could still leave this summer. Could be a Southampton style exodus.

  • Christopher says:

Next season, it is going to be De Gea, Shaw, Rojo, Hummels, Cyne, Blind, Gundogan, Depay, Mata, Di Maria and Rooney

  • moris says:

whats all this Shaw I see all over your comments? Jeeez the guy is a big flop but you guys keep hyping him cause he is English. What has he done to earn you guys vote other than that I’ll never. Blind has been better when played at LB. If Di Maria and Falcao who have done better than him can be branded flops and most likely to be let go then why the wool in the eyes when it comes to Shaw? Overated and protected.

  • Faruk says:

    Next season, GK=De Gea, LB=Clyne, CB=Hummels and Jones/Rojo, RB=Shaw, LM=Carrick/Herrera, CM=Gundogan, RM=Mata/Fellaini, RW=Di Maria, LW=Depay, CF=Rooney…then we will be competing for the title.
